Mythology
In
a world evermore projected
towards horizons that widen the
boundaries of knowledge by the
day the question is what sense
does it make to speak of myths
and tales hidden in the meanders
of ancestral fears.
Myths are a part of the boundaries of
knowledge, they are the incipit of a
journey that mankind started when history
itself had not been written yet, when
science had not unveiled its secrets, when
philosophers were still asking themselves
which were the fundamental elements for
the development of life.
Empedocles
considered the earth, fire, water and air
as the four driving elements, the melting
pot for the genesis of a world limited to
very few known lands with vague outlines,
unreal distances, and a fragmented
knowledge, yet capable of drawing from
dreams the vital energy to build the
universe.
Since
ancient times Sicily has been seen as a
fruitful land with rich harvests yet
terrifying because of its volcano,
welcoming for its coasts yet perilous for
its whirlpools. A land of enchantment and
magic, of dazzling beauties and mysterious
phenomena. The life of the island is
closely entwined wit the myths created to
give answers to questions, explanations to
contradictions, certainties to fears.
When
the ineffable appears before the eyes of
man, a breeze becomes a word, the rustling
of the leaves becomes a melody, the
bubbling of water carries a faraway echo:
myth tells its tale.
